WHERE THERE ARE GODS, THERE ARE ALSO MONSTERS . . .

For a thousand years, the Etherworld has known peace.
Until now.

Many centuries ago, desperate to save her dying sister, Dianna made a deal with Kaden, a monster far worse than any nightmare. Locked in servitude to him, she is forced to hunt down an ancient relic held by her most dangerous enemies: an army led by Samkiel, the World Ender.

After the Gods War, Samkiel hid from everything, denying his crown and deserting his people. Now, an attack on those he loves sends him back to the realm he never wished to return to, and into the sights of an enemy he had hoped to forget.

With every world at stake, Dianna and Samkiel are forced to set aside their animosity and work together, before all is lost . . .

A Review

Opinion

A Perfectly Balanced Narrative

Amber V. Nicole’s writing style is rich, evocative, and immersive. Her prose flows effortlessly, drawing me deep into the world she has created. There’s a perfect balance between action-packed sequences, moments of introspection, and razor-sharp dialogue. The pacing is spot on, with each chapter revealing just enough to keep me hooked without feeling rushed or dragging on unnecessarily.

Complex, Well-Developed Characters

The heart of The Book of Azrael lies in its characters, particularly the two leads: Dianna and Samkiel. Dianna is a fierce, morally complex heroine who is bound by an ancient deal to serve the monstrous Kaden. She is a survivor in every sense of the word, and watching her navigate the impossible choices forced upon her was absolutely gripping. On the other side, Samkiel, known as the World Ender, is a character steeped in mystery, reluctant power, and hidden depths. The tension between them is electric, their dynamic shifting from enemies to uneasy allies, creating an intoxicating mix of conflict and chemistry.

Beyond the leads, the supporting characters are equally well-developed. Each one brings something unique to the story, adding layers of intrigue, loyalty, and betrayal. Even minor characters feel fully realized, making the world feel vibrant and lived-in.

A Breathtaking World Full of Gods and Monsters

One of my favorite aspects of this book is its world-building. The Etherworld is a realm brimming with ancient gods, ruthless monsters, and the echoes of long-forgotten wars. The lore is rich and complex, seamlessly woven into the narrative without feeling overwhelming. I loved the way Nicole explores the power struggles between gods and mortals, the weight of history, and the lingering scars of past conflicts.

The magic system is equally fascinating, feeling both vast and deeply rooted in the world’s mythology. It adds an extra layer of intensity to the battles and stakes, making every encounter unpredictable and exhilarating.

Plot Twists, Suspense, and Emotional Depth

From the very beginning, The Book of Azrael is packed with twists and turns that kept me on edge. Just when I thought I have things figured out, Nicole throws in another revelation that shifts everything. The suspense builds steadily throughout, culminating in high-stakes moments that left me breathless.

What truly sets this book apart, however, is its emotional depth. The characters’ struggles feel raw and real, making their victories, heartbreaks, and sacrifices resonate on a profound level. Whether it’s Dianna’s unwavering devotion to her sister, Samkiel’s burden of guilt, or the ever-present threat of Kaden’s control, the emotional weight of the story lingers long after turning the last page.

Conclusion

A Phenomenal Start to a Promising Series

The Book of Azrael is everything I could want in a fantasy novel—powerful writing, unforgettable characters, breathtaking world-building, and a story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Amber V. Nicole has crafted a masterpiece that stands tall among the best in the genre. If this first book is any indication, the rest of the Gods & Monsters series is bound to be extraordinary.

Five stars, without a doubt. This is a book that deserves a place on every fantasy lover’s shelf.

About Amber V. Nicole

Amber V. Nicole

Amber V. Nicole is a dark fantasy writer with a touch of horror added into the mix. When she is not writing new and fantastic ways to devastate her readers, she is probably playing video games or obsessing over anime. Amber loves morally gray characters with their flaws and all and is always dreaming of far off places with dragons, magic, and swords. She loves a good villain and plans to tell many stories showcasing them in the spotlight.
